An Imperial Legacy

Castello Svevo is the undisputed jewel of Rocca Imperiale. Commissioned by the "Stupor Mundi", Emperor Federico II di Svevia, it was built in the early decades of the thirteenth century to watch over the ancient route between Calabria and Apulia.

Beyond its defensive and military purpose, these lands were beloved by the sovereign for falconry. The castle became a symbol of Svevo power over the Ionian Sea.

Walls and Architecture

A Fortress Through Time

Today's architecture is not purely Sveva. During the Renaissance it was reinforced to withstand artillery, and in the eighteenth century the Crivelli dukes even built a noble residence within its walls.

Today, from La Casetta, you can admire its unmistakable silhouette lit up at night while savouring the best of local tradition. It is an enchanting, truly unique setting.
